Expectations of Blog Visitors
Out of the thousands of blogs that adorn the web, only a few can claim to be popular among web users. Popularity of a blog is naturally determined by the activity it manages to generate and sustain. This is calculated in terms of traffic generated, comments posted, links shared and in some cases, revenue generated.
What bloggers want from their own blogs is common knowledge; they want more readers and, if it is being maintained for business purposes, they want to generate more revenue through the blog. But in order to achieve either of these objectives, blog owners need to know one simple thing: what do your visitors want? Knowing what visitors want, and by extension, expect from your blog can help you turn your blog into a traffic magnet, thereby increasing your chances to boost your sales.
Here are a few tips to help you determine what visitors expect from your blog:
1. Communicate
Talking to your audience is the best way to find out how your blog can meet their expectations. This can be achieved by posting a few lines at the end of each blog post requesting and encouraging your audience to share their views by posting comments. You can then respond to their comments and engage them further, asking what they like or dislike about your blog. You can also dedicate a separate blog post or page for comments and feedback or even invite people to a live chat session through your website.
2. Keep an eye on your competitors
If your competitor maintains a blog, make sure to visit their blog frequently to get an idea about the type of material they post regularly and the posts that generate most activity from their readers. This doesn’t mean that you should copy your competitor’s ideas, rather it will help you plan your strategy and give you valuable insight into what might attract visitors to your blog.
3. Visit forums
Visiting industry related forums will help in finding out the hot topics of discussion and the type of questions people are asking. With this information, you can then proceed to create relevant content on your website and invite the forum community to visit your blog and continue the discussion there.
4. Use surveys
Surveys are a great way to find out what people think about a product or service or about issues in general. Inviting people to take part in one can help you determine what changes need to be made in order keep visitors interested. You can create a brief questionnaire on your website and a few days later post the results of the survey on your website and indicate which of the suggestions from the participants will be implemented, encouraging more people to take part in future surveys.
5. Keep an eye on blog comments
If visitors to your blog post comments on your posts, go through them thoroughly to gauge public opinion and to see if any suggestions are being shared. At the same time, you can visit popular blogs in your industry and check comments posted on those blogs to get ideas about your next blog post.
